One of the best things the Breakout EDU kits is that the locks that come with it are resettable so that they can be played with all of the many games that our platform offers.

Being resettable is amazing, but can occasionally become problematic if students play with the open locks once they remove them from the Breakout EDU box.

One step you can take to limit the the locks accidentally becoming reset, is to collect the locks from the students as they remove them from the box.

Another way to handle this is to use a "Locks Parking Lot" where the students place the removed locks as soon as they remove them.

We have created a "Locks Parking Lot" printable that you might find useful.

Another important resource is the Lock Recording Sheet. This document helps students keep track of combinations as the work through the game. We have created both a version with images of the locks as well as a blank version for students to customize for use in digital games.


## Lock Trouble Shooting

Breakout EDU Kits contain real working locks. That means that your best defense against lock issues is to be proactive when using them. Here are a few habits to get into that should make it easier to have your locks ready for the next game:

- Reset your 3 and 4 digit locks to “0” when putting them away after playing a game
- Store Multilocks with the rings on the shackle so that it is easier to set up the red line and open lock
- ALWAYS print the answer key or use the Lock Recording Sheet to write down the lock combinations
- If you loan your kit to others, set locks open/set to zero and ask them to be returned that way
- Write the name of the game you are playing on a post-it note, tape it to the underside of the box
- Store one of the three padlock keys in a special place just in case the others get lost or locked into a box

Just include as much information as you can such as who used them last, which locks are stuck, if there are locks that are open, what those combinations might be, and if you see any papers with the kit that were clues in the former game.

The more information we have, the better we may be able to help you get to the combination a little quicker.
