They can even toggle back in time to complete a week’s worth of puzzles and fill in their Lock of the Day rings.

#### Game Design Studio

One of the biggest advantages to the student experience is access to the Game Design Studio. Game design is not only a great way to stretch your students' creativity, it is also a great way to hone critical thinking skills. Nothing helps build critical thinking more than THINKING about how to test someone else’s critical thinking! This is also a great way to develop communication skills (with great clue design) as well as collaboration skills (when working in small groups with one student being “the author” and submitting a game for the group). Students can design games for a wide variety of reasons. Here are just a few!

- Demonstration of subject content understanding
- Class review games
- Lessons on designing (creation of clues in Adobe Express or other application)
- Lessons on clue development (communicating informational text)
- Lessons on “if… then” logic (sequential clues)

**To get started**, students should complete the Learn and Play modules. These modules, created by our Breakout EDU Games Team , walk students through the process of creating engaging, challenging, and fun Breakout EDU Digital Games. By the way, they are great for teachers too! Look for the link to these modules in the lower right had corner of your home page.

Each Game Design level features an engaging video lesson and a fun practice game to inspire creativity and spark curiosity, and get those creative juices flowing.

When students are ready to dive into the game design process, it is a good idea to have them plan things out on paper first. Using the [Student Game Design Template ](https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/platformbreakout/hosted_files/prod/7982.pdf)helps them organize their thoughts, assign tasks for group work, sketch out clues and keep track of the critical thinking process. These also serve as a great way for teachers to keep track of progress during a game design lesson.

The Game Design Studio itself offers student many ways to express their creativity, hone their critical thinking skills and apply content knowledge. Visit the Student Game Design page to learn more!
